Natural disasters are the biggest obstacles to social security and sustainable development. Due to its geographical position and geo-tectonic condition, Nepal is prone to several types of natural disasters. Disasters cause tremendous economic damages, affecting the annual GDP. In recent years, the increasing number of natural disasters in Asia that include Tsunami and South Asian quake are a matter of serious concern to us. At this crucial juncture, it is useful to make aware our status of Disaster Management situation in Nepal. Susma Koirala Morial Trust has been piloting community-based disaster management activities in most of the eastern part of the country since its establishment through opportunist (act whenever needed) disaster management program and strengthening disaster management capacity in Nepal. |
