Sushma Koirala Memorial Study Circle


  (SKMT’s Concept Towards Democracy)
 

The Trust was founded with the objective of bringing social and economic transformation in the lives of the Nepalese people at the grassroots level, focusing on the downtrodden, oppressed, and underprivileged communities, keeping women in the centre in order to give continuity to the noble vision of Sushma Koirala.

At the same time, the trust also aims at promoting a number of interdisciplinary activities ranging from different long term/short term training programs in the health sector, to holding art exhibitions, concerts, talk programs and conferences.

Sushma Koirala Memorial-Study Circle is created as purely study circles in 2009 as a national wing by the Sushma Koirala Memorial Trust- SKMT, a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization.This study circle is a national organization that helps national level organizations, regional level, local level bodies, local communities and individuals to find ways for all kinds of people to think, talk and work together to solve problems. We work with neighborhoods, cities and towns, regions, and national wide, helping them pay particular attention to how racism, ethnic, inequalities, political differences, social injustices, domestic, national and international issues affects the problems they address.

How Our Work will Grow

In the beginning, we will focuses on developing a better kind of public dialogue, drawing on the ways people talk in their everyday lives. Then, we campaign the idea that public talk is for everyone, and help communities organize to bring all kinds of people into the conversation. We will help people to connect public dialogue to real solutions. We will collect views, organize dialogues and meet programs with the national, regional and international experts, socialist leaders to address the past, present and future issues for betterment and welfare of Nepalese people. We created environment to understand the problems and issues so that the issues and problems can be addressed by the people in proper way.

Our Relationship to the Society

    

We are open. One who trusts in peace, democracy and freedom is for us and we are for them. SKMT is our modest endowment supports the bulk of our work. In addition, we raise part of our operation fund from other foundations to support innovation and long-term work at national, regional and community level. We collect funds form national and international organizations, aid agencies, universities, foundation, Nepalese people living in Nepal or in abroad and other various individual and organization without any conditions. We issue different types of membership in various ways including individual and institutional /organizations memberships.

  • Identifying issues ( past, present and future)
  • Identifying the resource persons ( national and international level)
  • Interact and organize talk programs with the foreign officials while their visits in Nepal.
  • Collect resources from around the globe ( monetary and non monetary)
  • Identifying various political and non political organization, groups and individuals to participate in this study circle.
